About The Position

We are currently looking for a Conventional Prepress Technician to join our Team! Job Summary: The Conventional Prepress Tech is responsible for ensuring quality of plates/proofs and layouts in the prepress department before they are sent to customer, load plates into plate setters, stage processed plates for press operators, trim, fold and verify proofs measurements and accuracy, understand job ticket information to determine quantity, special work instructions, and any other special customer requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to spot errors, inconsistencies, and quality issues in files and proofs.
  • Ability to communicate in English, read, write, and understand and to effectively use in proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, SOPs, time sheets, daily production reports, dockets, job tickets, etc.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic procedures in standard practice practical applications, read and use a ruler.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work any shift, weekends or overtime as needed.
  • A High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • preferred 3+ years previous experience in a prepress, plating, proofing or digital printing environment preferred
  • Computer experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Kodak Prinergy, Screen Equios, Heidelberg Prinect and EFI Fiery software a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reads press schedule, job ticket, VPS and all other furnished specifications in detail to determine order in which jobs are plated and what size plate is used, questions all discrepancies or oddities in instructions.
  • Review images produced on plate for defects or errors that will manifest during the printing process.
  • Perform monthly routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Verifies all job information to ensure that correct plates are being used; checks plates for quality and repairs any flaws.
  • Working knowledge of the Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Kodak Prinergy, Screen Equios, Heidelberg Prinect and EFI Fiery software a plus.
  • Verifies all job information to ensure that correct proofs are being made; checks proofs for quality and report any problems
  • Complete proofs for customer approval including trimming, folding, perfing, etc.
  • Fill out proof slips/tags and affix to proofs.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of any problems, i.e. supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Responsible for the overall cleanliness and housekeeping of the work area including sweeping/moping, dusting and trash/recyclable removal.
  • Troubleshooting issues relating to plates, platesetters, proofs, etc.
  • Handles plates with care while delivering them to the presses.
  • Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures including but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out-tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies.
  • Ensure quality checklists and paperwork are complete and correct.
  • Must work overtime as needed/required.
