About The Position

The Conventional Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to manufacture precision aerospace components within a fast-paced production environment. This role requires strict adherence to engineering specifications, aerospace quality standards, and safety protocols, while consistently maintaining tight tolerances and high repeatability. The Conventional Machinist works with a variety of materials and collaborates closely with engineering and quality teams to ensure all parts meet exacting performance and compliance requirements.

Requirements

Knowledge of manual machining processes including turning, milling, honing, and grinding
Strong understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T
Familiarity with aerospace quality standards such as AS9100
Understanding of precision measurement tools and inspection techniques
Knowledge of machining characteristics for a range of metals, including high-performance alloys
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Strong time management and ability to meet production deadlines
Consistency and discipline in maintaining repeatable machining processes
High school diploma or equivalent required
3–7+ years of experience in manual machining, preferably in aerospace or high-precision environments
Strong proficiency in blueprint reading and GD&T
Experience working with tight tolerances and complex geometries
Ability to work from process sheets, routers, and detailed work instructions
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Candidates "must/may need" to be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
Successful candidates must be able to secure Program Access approval

Responsibilities

Set up and operate conventional/manual machines including manual lathes, manual mills (Bridgeport), honing machines, and grinding equipment
Interpret complex aerospace engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements
Machine a variety of materials including aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys
Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges
Maintain tight tolerances, often within ±0.0005" or tighter depending on part requirements
Perform in-process inspections to ensure compliance with aerospace standards
Deburr, polish, and finish parts to required specifications
Document work performed in accordance with AS9100 and customer traceability requirements
Maintain equipment, tooling, and work area in a clean and safe condition
Collaborate with quality, engineering, and inspection teams to resolve machining or dimensional issues
Adhere to aerospace quality standards including AS9100 and customer-specific requirements
Ensure full traceability of materials, processes, and completed work
Participate in audits and continuous improvement initiatives
Follow all safety and regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards
