About The Position

The Controls Technician supports the design, testing, validation, and commissioning of industrial control systems. This role performs hands-on work with electrical and automation equipment, contributes to testing and documentation, and collaborates with engineering and project teams to ensure system functionality, quality, and compliance. Location Requirements: Must live within a 50 mile radius of Westfalia Technologies Inc Headquarters and within PA or MD.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of wiring practices, electrical tools, and safe work procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, I/O lists, and control documentation.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently or collaboratively, and communicate effectively with teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years’ Experience as a Controls Technician or similar role.
  • Ability to perform physical labor and office work.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend a fixed vertical ladder, up to 30’ high, 10% of the time during system commissioning to access the SRM cabin.
  • Must be fit for air travel and legally able to rent and drive a rental vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Rockwell Studio 5000 Logix Designer or Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Proficiency in panel design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities following established plans and procedures.
  • Perform I/O checkout, signal verification, and functional testing of control systems.
  • Review electrical schematics, I/O lists, and control documentation to verify accuracy and conformance.
  • Assist in maintaining I/O lists, IP address lists, HMI tag lists, and other project documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain test records, FAT reports, punch lists, and as-built documentation.
  • Develop, refine, and standardize testing workflows, procedures, and documentation templates.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project teams to improve testability, system design, and overall process efficiency.
  • Support on-site verification, startup assistance, and commissioning activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
