About The Position

The purpose of the Control Technician’s role is to perform routine and non-routine maintenance on production and facility equipment to support production of roofing materials. This position is also responsible for meeting facility targets for safety, productivity, and machine uptime. This role will conduct effective problem solving and troubleshoot processes to develop corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Associate’s/ Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of practical electrical/ instrumentation/ controls experience in an industrial setting
  • Hands-on experienced with programming PLCs and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) skillsets
  • Asset reliability experience
  • Knowledge of advanced computer and SAP software

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot software programs such as spreadsheets, word processing and data base programs.

  • Minimal travel for training and projects
  • Proficient electrical knowledge of 24V - 480V AC/DC electrical power and control systems, Electric Motor and Motor Control Center knowledge, VFD’s, and PLC systems
  • Proficient in trouble shooting automated systems, schematics & wiring diagrams, mathematics, and electrical theory
  • Proficient in National Electrical Code in industrial applications.
  • Motor Controls: conductor, over current protection, overloads devices and proper selection
  • Proficient in grounding, Bonding and sizing of grounding conductors
  • Proficient in Power Distribution Systems maintenance and ability to identify NEC, State and Local electrical codes have been followed
  • Proficient in the uses of DMM’s voltage, amperage, milliamp sourcing and sinking, resistance readings. Meg Ohm meter setup usage and interpretations
  • Understand and apply NFPA 70E standards
  • Ensure repairs and calibrations to be performed in conformance with established standards
  • Develop calibration standards / work procedures
  • Proficient with pneumatics controls and interaction with PLC’s and automated machinery
  • Proficient in testing, calibration, and repairs of pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, indicating, and control instruments/equipment
  • Instrumentation experience in most of the following areas: pH, conductivity, analytical, flow, temperature (RTD and thermocouple), pressure, level, configuration support, control valves, smart meters, schematics & wiring diagrams, P&IDs, process flow diagrams and mathematics.
  • Perform calibration standards & work procedures, provide work order feedback on discrepancies noted in service delivery
  • Proficient with Pneumatic and Hydraulic equipment
  • Provide research resource for standardized equipment and devices used by other sites.
  • Communicate controls systems health and options for improvements
  • Install setup/repair/troubleshoot various control devices for example: Weighing systems, magnets, metering pumps, thickness monitoring equipment, vacuum systems
  • Proficient with PID loops
  • Provide PLC assistance with troubleshooting, suggest logic control changes
  • Maintain remote I/O and Control Networks
  • Experience with PLC programming modifications
  • Proficient with online troubleshooting

  • Proficient with identification and technical comprehension of various manufacturers and models of hardware
  • Manage and maintain back-up copies of critical equipment PLC programs
  • Provide troubleshooting/support and maintain HMI hardware and applications and suggest improvements

  • Perform uploads/downloads
  • Provide HMI training for operators and maintenance technicians on an as needed basis.
  • Assist with writing HMI tasks in Equipment Operator SOPs
  • Proficient with network support wired and wireless
  • Proficient with cabling installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting and repair
  • Proficient in network switches, testing, troubleshooting and support
  • Proficient in wireless access points, testing, troubleshooting and support
  • The ability to stand for extended periods
  • The ability to manually lift, push or pull at least 50 pounds safely and with proper body mechanics, sometimes while in awkward positions.
  • Use of hands (repetitive motion, grabbing, feeling, sensing, pulling)
  • The ability to work safely in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful work environment
  • The ability to safely and effectively work in an often-dusty work environment that experiences a broad range of temperatures (very hot to very cold).
  • The ability to withstand the rigors of working a 12(or 8)-hour rotating shift schedule.
  • The ability to bend, stoop or kneel repetitively.
  • The ability to reach or work above the shoulder

Responsibilities

  • Follow all Johns Manville safety and environmental procedures and policies.
  • Attend plant safety and training meetings as scheduled.
  • Follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA's), uses safe work practices, and reports hazardous conditions at all times.
  • Wear protective clothing & equipment as required.
  • Develop JSA’s for new tasks and review JSA’s annually.
  • Demonstrate ability to train coworkers about various systems in the plant.
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance activities of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Develop and modify preventive maintenance plans for new and modified equipment.
  • Display advanced working knowledge of electrical (single phase and 3 phase), of plant power distribution systems, mechanical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems.
  • Install and repair electrical conduit and cable, including connections, controls, grounding, etc.
  • Work from electrical and mechanical schematics to troubleshoot or install new or modify existing equipment.
  • Perform voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, and other electrical measurements.
  • Inspect equipment and reports on defective part and unsatisfactory conditions to further preventative maintenance program.
  • Provide solutions to improve the efficiency of the equipment.
  • Maintain, adjust, service and lubricate equipment keeping it in good operating conditions with respect to proper aligning, functioning and lubrication of parts.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) teams.
  • Assist co-workers as directed.
  • Perform and complete other work as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provides feedback and solutions to leadership on critical equipment issues pertaining to safety or operational capabilities
  • Display flexible outlook toward change management, working on cross-functional teams, training for the use of new tools and methodologies, and willingness and ability to obtain operating knowledge of all production equipment.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping efforts.
  • Ensure job site is consistently clean after every job and clean maintenance shop after every shift.
  • Lead maintenance activity related testing, calibration, and repairs of pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, indicating, and control instruments / equipment.
  • Provide Automation support and PLC training to site maintenance personnel
  • Performs duties and provides work order feedback on discrepancies noted in service delivery
  • Comply with all company / customer regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ensures that all applicable codes, standards, and specifications are being maintained, including, but not limited to NEC, State / Local electrical codes
  • Provide solutions research, development, and implementation
  • Maintain standardization practices, development, and implementation
