The Plant Controls/Systems Engineer at 3M is responsible for enhancing machine efficiency and yield through various controls and programming projects. This role involves troubleshooting control-related issues, mentoring plant engineering employees, and leading projects aimed at improving process safety, quality, and productivity. The engineer will also engage in daily operations to resolve equipment downtime issues and maintain product/process documentation.

  • Increase machine efficiency and yield through controls and programming projects
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting of controls related issues to improve machine uptime
  • Develop plans to further systems and databases plantwide to improve data availability and push forward technology advancements
  • Mentor and coach plant engineering employees in controls and systems issues
  • Identify, initiate, and lead projects to improve process safety, quality, service, cost, capacity, and productivity through engineering and continuous improvement methods
  • Improve process capability on manufacturing equipment using standard work, tier reviews, and kaizens
  • Troubleshoot defects and variation, perform root cause analysis, apply systematic problem-solving techniques, and implement sustainable solutions
  • Engage in daily operations to resolve equipment downtime issues, assure quality and productivity, and meet service targets
  • Create and maintain product/process documentation, including specifications, test methods, and change management documentation
  • Establish an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments
  • Communicate at all levels of the organization to drive direction and function as a technical resource within the immediate work group.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Five (5) years of experience in manufacturing in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Experience with Allen Bradley, FANUC, HMI Systems
  • Experience within a manufacturing setting with demonstrated strength in engineering
  • Experience with injection molding processes or equipment
  • Training and experience in continuous improvement methods, statistics, and designed experiments; Six Sigma certification is a plus
  • Demonstrated capability and knowledge of equipment reliability concepts and methods
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and remain flexible to changes
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated project leadership experience, teamwork, and communication skills.
