About The Position

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. As a part of an engineering team, utilize fundamental understanding to complete key project deliverables in optical fiber manufacturing or technology development groups.

Requirements

Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls or related fields
Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
Be willing to work at the posted job location
Familiarity with engineering process fundamentals and scientific methodology (e.g. designing and using critical experiments to drive fundamental understanding)
Data/statistical analysis skills
Analytical problem-solving skills
Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
Results-oriented
Knowledge of basic electronics and circuit design
Python, C/C++ or Visual Basic a plus

Nice To Haves

Experience programming HMI/SCADA(iFix), PLC (Allen Bradley Studio 5000)

Responsibilities

While participating in a team environment, own key project objectives critical to Corning's success.
Interface with various engineering and operations groups to understand potential impact of product, equipment, and process changes. Ensure communication is established to address concerns and obtain assistance/buy-in.
Review performance data on new processes/findings and effectively draw conclusions.
Communicate effectively to personnel at various levels up to and including the staff level.
