The Controls Engineer will serve on assigned projects from pre-sales to final commissioning stage, creating designs that meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements while adhering to budgetary constraints. The role involves designing optimal FMS/BMS systems in compliance with customer specifications, collaborating with third-party suppliers to develop control schemes using PLCs and relays, and generating bills of material. The engineer will also manage contracted integration companies to provide detailed schematic designs and collaborate with general contractors and architects to create construction documents. Compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements is essential, as is the review and approval of product submittals. The engineer will define project scope, provide technical support, ensure quality control during integration, and work with commissioning teams to validate system performance. Travel to sites for reviews and audits is required, along with offering creative solutions to customers.

  • Serve as the Controls Engineer on assigned projects from pre-sales to final commissioning stage.
  • Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
  • Design optimal FMS/BMS design in compliance with the customer’s requirements and specifications.
  • Work with 3rd party suppliers to design the control schemes for their equipment, utilizing PLCs and/or relays.
  • Generate bills of material and modify standard assemblies as required.
  • Manage and support contracted integration companies to provide detailed schematic design, detail design, and construction drawing narratives.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and external partners to create a construction document set.
  • Work with Vertiv’s business units and preferred vendors to specify appropriate BMS and controls equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Review and approve FMS/BMS product submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests.
  • Quality control during integration of FMS/BMS systems.
  • Support for all on-site integration.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation and performance of FMS/BMS systems.
  • Travel to sites for site review and provide engineering evaluations and audits.
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to the customer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of Controls Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of FMS/BMS design concepts, installation, and use.
  • Knowledge of local, state, & federal codes governing FMS/BMS control requirements.
  • Working knowledge in AutoDesk suite of Engineering software including AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Experience reading and interpreting modular construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Professional engineering (PE) License – optional.
