About The Position

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Controls Engineer in their Fullerton, CA location. This role involves working with management to propose, develop, and implement new machine building technology for production equipment of aerospace fasteners. The engineer will align technological solutions with manufacturing challenges such as safety, process control, or productivity, and develop a strategy of continuous improvement using custom automation, smart manufacturing, or artificial intelligence. The position also includes managing the safety, schedule, cost, and performance of projects with internal and external resources, and leading a team of design engineers and development tool and die makers to adapt or produce production equipment for custom applications.

Requirements

  • 3+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in automation and or fabrication.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in the metal forming or components industry.
  • Knowledge of Syteline Manufacturing software, Microsoft excel, word, power point, and other computer related activities proficiently.
  • Tool and dies or machine building experience.
  • Minimum of completion journeyman tool and die apprenticeship.
  • Experience in aerospace or fastener manufacturing.
  • Experience mechanical and/or electrical knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Howmet Fastening Systems business owners to align technological solutions with manufacturing challenges such as safety, process control, or productivity.
  • Develop and promote a strategy of continuous improvement based on technological solutions including custom automation, smart manufacturing or artificial intelligence.
  • Manage safety, schedule, cost, and performance of projects using internal and external resources.
  • Identify, propose and implement automation solutions including use of cobots, robots and fixed automation to significantly reduce labor and safety incidents.
  • Identify, propose and implement process control improvements such as recipe-based setup, poke-yoke, smart manufacturing systems to reduce downtime and scrap.
  • Identify, propose and implement next level technology especially in the areas of net shape forming and machining to reduce cost.
  • Manage a team of design engineers and development tool and die makers to adapt or produce production equipment for custom applications.
