Tension Packaging & Automation is seeking a motivated and innovative Electrical / Controls Engineer to design, develop, and support advanced automation systems used in packaging and pharmaceutical applications. This role is responsible for electrical design, PLC programming, system validation, and customer support throughout the lifecycle of our automation equipment. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or related field
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong understanding of modern controls architecture and industrial networking
  • Proven experience with PLC programming and control system design
  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards and electrical codes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for customer site support
  • PLC programming (Beckhoff, Rockwell, Siemens, or similar platforms preferred)
  • AutoCAD Electrical (ACADE)
  • HMI development
  • Electrical panel design
  • Industrial communication protocols
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in packaging, automation, or pharmaceutical industries preferred

Responsibilities

  • Control System Electrical Design Design and validate electrical control systems for packaging automation equipment in compliance with applicable standards and regulations Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, bills of material (BOM), and supporting documentation Select and specify appropriate electrical components Ensure compliance with NFPA 79, NEC, UL 508A, and other relevant standards Develop system testing and validation procedures Support and oversee control panel manufacturing and field wiring as required
  • PLC Programming & System Development Program and troubleshoot PLC-based automation systems Configure and debug HMI interfaces and motion control systems as required Modify software to correct errors, improve performance, or adapt to new hardware Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) Provide on-site startup and commissioning support
  • Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely manner Support field service and customer technical inquiries Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives Contribute to LEAN and continuous improvement efforts
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Applications, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Sales teams Consult with customers regarding system requirements, performance expectations, and technical issues Communicate project status, limitations, and risks clearly and professionally Support documentation development and project handoff processes
