We're looking for a Controls Engineer to join our engineering team and support the development, implementation, and improvement of advanced manufacturing systems and processes. What You'll Do As a Controls Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and developing control systems for machinery, driving process improvements, and ensuring operational efficiency. You'll collaborate across teams to:

  • Manage the development and the implementation of new equipment and processes
  • Design and develop control systems for manufacturing machinery and processes.
  • Provide cost and payback analysis for candidate projects.
  • Lead and assist in the design of new manufacturing processes, machines, and operations.
  • Provide critical comments regarding new product to preclude manufacturing obstacles.
  • Modify existing equipment to accommodate new products or specifications.
  • Identify or design efficient and cost-effective processes and implement them.
  • Author capital expenditure requests for production equipment including cost breakdown, cost justification, and payback calculations.
  • Work closely with maintenance to repair and improve equipment.
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, with the goal of rapid repair and minimal downtime.
  • Suggest improvements for areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain process records and machine documentation including computer programs, drawings, bills of materials, and maintenance schedules.
  • Create CAD schematics for existing and new equipment.
  • Handle ECR'S as assigned.
  • Complete New Equipment and Process checklist as applicable.
  • Support maintenance operations and processes requiring technical support.
  • Assist and/or perform repairs when an identified problem requires engineering support.
  • Identify safety hazards and develop action plans to rectify the situation.
  • Troubleshoot machines or process failures using PLC and HMI software.
  • Provide support for existing PLC and computer software used in inspection or statistical sampling.
  • Develop and execute control interfaces and/or automation to existing and new equipment.
  • Conduct testing and analysis (including reports) in support of new manufacturing methods.
  • Provide technical support to internal departments pertaining to process or equipment capabilities.
  • Interact with vendors and outside customers to assure expectations of design and/or function are met.
  • Assist in training operators for new machines and processes.
  • Provide leadership support for projects and areas of responsibility.
  • Work with department leads on areas of improvement and machine upgrades.
  • Manage technical and maintenance personnel assigned to major projects.
  • Provide communication and reports to management and area personnel to better facilitate operations.
  • A BS or MS degree in engineering is preferred. Lesser levels of education are acceptable with sufficient professional experience as a controls or robotics technician.
  • 1-5 years of PLC programming including Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.
  • 1-5 years of electrical schematic design using SolidWorks Electrical and AutoCAD.
  • Strong engineering and machine design skills.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a project team.
  • Project management skills and ability to complete several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain a working knowledge of current design and automation technology.
  • Computer skills in design drawing (SolidWorks), word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics and ability to work with and configure computer software and hardware to suit needs.
  • Knowledge of SCADA and data reporting using Ignition.
  • Electrical panel building and knowledge of machine wiring standards.
  • Capability of specifying and sizing electrical components for custom machinery.
