About The Position

We are looking for a talented Controls Engineer - 2nd shift to join our team specializing in manufacturing for our Cummins’ business in Columbus, IN. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: Enhancing System Reliability By assisting in the design and development of control systems, you'll help ensure machinery and processes operate smoothly and efficiently. Improving Product Quality Your work on bench tests and debugging will directly influence the accuracy and performance of sensors and actuators, leading to better product outcomes. Supporting Innovation Altering software and equipment to meet specifications allows you to contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of control technologies. Cost Optimization Assisting with cost estimates and appropriation requests helps the team make informed financial decisions, balancing performance with budget constraints. Problem Solving & Troubleshooting Investigating issues and proposing solutions supports operational continuity and minimizes downtime, which is critical in manufacturing and automation environments. Environmental & Safety Considerations Your input on project plans that factor in environmental and personnel impacts ensures responsible and sustainable engineering practices. Hands-On Technical Support Providing installation and support for PLC-based systems means you'll be a key player in keeping automation systems running effectively. Requirements

  • Strong Technical Foundation in Controls Engineering You’ll need to apply knowledge of controls hardware, software, networking, and automation systems to design, troubleshoot, and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Effective Communication & Collaboration Skills Success depends on your ability to work cross-functionally, communicate clearly with diverse teams, and build partnerships to achieve shared goals.
  • Commitment to Safety and Security Proactively identifying hazards, implementing safe practices, and ensuring system security are essential to maintaining a safe and reliable manufacturing environment.

  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in controls engineering or related automation/manufacturing roles required.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and RFIB Bar Code Scanners required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Siemens (7 Step) is a big plus
