About The Position

The Controls Engineer is essential to Avery Dennison’s operational success, responsible for maintaining existing instrumentation and control platforms while envisioning future technology to drive plant expansion. You will collaborate with internal and external technical resources to provide guidance to Operations, implementing measurable improvements in manufacturing and packaging equipment. A primary focus includes the execution of initiatives centered on Safety, Environmental, Quality, and equipment reliability. In this role, you will proactively lead major capital project teams, ensuring projects are completed within budget and timelines while maintaining rigorous technical documentation. Leveraging your expertise in automation hardware, drive configuration, and complex circuitry, you will identify performance gaps to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 5+ years of controls or electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Requirements: Demonstrated expertise in PLCs, AC/DC electrical, and HMIs is required.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and lead complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to promote collaboration and resolve conflicts within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems is highly preferred.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD, Rockwell RS, Siemens software, Wonderware InTouch, and Google Workspace.
  • Analytical Skills: Experience with SPC, DOE, FMEA, and statistical analysis tools like MINITAB.

Responsibilities

  • Implement technical solutions for equipment installation, startup, and commissioning using specialized hardware and software design.
  • Provide daily and on-call support to sustain or restart malfunctioning plant equipment.
  • Lead problem-solving activities (RCA, PDCA) and risk analysis to support project outcomes.
  • Collaborate across functions to align project objectives with division goals and present clear technical findings to management.
  • Write comprehensive project plans, determine resource requirements, and update operational procedures or drawings.
  • Assess, select, and manage a local network of external contractors and vendors to support plant operations.
