About The Position

Clean Energy is dedicated to reducing pollution from the transportation industry by promoting natural gas fuel. The company is an essential business and is currently hiring. This Controls Engineer position involves creating PLC/HMI code for electro-mechanical systems, assisting with commissioning and troubleshooting, and collaborating with the engineering team to develop new products and systems. The role also includes creating and reviewing electrical schematics, supporting manufacturing, and providing technical guidance and field support. Flexibility for domestic travel up to 20% is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Automation Engineering or related field, 6-9 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of PLC and HMI design and programming for industrial equipment for machine control, design and development of electrical and software systems.
  • Must have experience using SCADA.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD software.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Siemens, Horner and/ or Allen Bradley PLC programmer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Using control descriptions, I/O lists, electrical schematics, and drawings, creating PLC/HMI code for control of various electro-mechanical systems.
  • Assist Field Commissioning and Service Technicians with start-up and troubleshooting of applied programming.
  • Work with engineering team to develop electrical, instrumentation and controls products and systems to satisfy unique customer specifications, contracts, and new business development.
  • Create/review/modify electrical schematics, drawings, and I/O lists for various electro-mechanical systems to ensure compliance with engineering standards and customer specifications.
  • Support design and manufacturing of machine control systems.
  • Submit timely status reports to management on progress of assigned projects.
  • Develop UL and other related technical documentation for review and submittal to customers.
  • Participate as necessary in equipment tests (including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), assembly, installation, and set-up activities to ensure components and systems are conforming to engineering design standards and customer specifications.
  • Program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution for PLC code.
  • Estimate engineering time, material costs and resources required for proposed projects.
  • Provide Purchasing department with technical guidance on electrical components, equipment, software, and services.
  • Providing field support for equipment installation, startup, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Design and Develop PLC program standards for Clean Energy and its subsidiaries.
  • Flexibility for domestic travel up to 20% at times is required (overnight travel may be required to support installation, start-up activities or attend client’s meeting).
