Administration of Economic Programs

The Controls Engineer at Florida Crystals Corporation is responsible for maintaining and enhancing instrumentation and control systems to support plant production, quality, GMP, and safety goals. This role involves designing and implementing changes to these systems, managing capability development for controls and electrical technicians, and ensuring the integrity of control and information systems.

  • Design and support both control and manufacturing execution systems.
  • Support companywide infrastructure for existing systems and serve as a high-level resource for operating systems and applications for manufacturing processes.
  • Propose, design, and implement algorithms needed for continuous improvement based on manufacturing direction.
  • Conduct automation feasibility studies for practicality and potential return on investment.
  • Prepare and submit the controls design and implementation phase of projects.
  • Develop logic and algorithms for both discrete and analog control of processes and implement them.
  • Develop HMI applications to meet the needs of operations.
  • Innovate to maintain competitive edge and meet end-user needs.
  • Assure the integrity of control and information systems through security and redundant system backups.
  • Document and develop systems for consistency.
  • Provide operation, maintenance, and technical support/training to production and maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain health of Process Control Domain Infrastructure and existing Manufacturing Information Systems.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on controls and instrumentation experience in packaging improvement projects and working with packaging lines design and install.
  • Previous job experience in high-speed packaging.
  • Previous food industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GMP practices, sanitary design, and OSHA regulations is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to select and apply sound engineering practices and principles to the design and development of high volume consumer products packaging.
  • Strong background and proven results in leading continuous improvement efforts through the application of Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma activities, TPM or WCM.
  • An Associate's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college/university, with related coursework required or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with Wonderware System Platform & InTouch, Allen Bradley PLC systems (PLC5, SLC500, and ControlLogix) and associated I/O systems, Allen Bradley VFDs / Soft Starters / Servos, Allen Bradley Centerline MCCs, process instrumentation (analog valves & transmitters).
