Together, we aim to be the first to do the right thing at the right time.   Join the home for entrepreneurs!   Your role in our team The Controls Engineer I develops control system designs, programs and commissions PLC code, and creates graphical user interfaces for material handling systems. This role tests code functionality, troubleshoots on-site electrical equipment, and collaborates with Electrical Engineering on control network architecture. The Controls Engineer I also defines electrical device requirements, supports project estimates, and recommends productivity and cost improvements.

Requirements

  • You will have obtained a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field required
  • You have gained 1-3 years of work experience in the material handling industry or a similar industry required
  • You have experience with Rockwell Automation PLC programming, including GuardLogix; Siemens TIA Portal PLC programming, and Starter
  • You have experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture
  • You have experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings and understanding HMI programming
  • You can read and interpret electrical schematic drawings and technical specifications
  • You have basic troubleshooting skills for PLC and electrical equipment
  • Eligible applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The employer will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.

Responsibilities

  • You will design and develop control systems for material handling automation projects
  • You will develop, deploy, and commission Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code
  • You will develop graphical user interfaces (HMIs) for material handling systems
  • You will test and emulate code functionality before on-site deployment and testing
  • You will troubleshoot PLC code and electrical equipment functionality on-site during commissioning and testing activities
  • You will collaborate with Electrical Engineering resources to support control network architecture requirements and design
  • You will define electrical device requirements for system control
  • You will support estimates for complex module development and system commissioning requirements
  • You will develop recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction, and improvement in customer satisfaction
  • You will complete the software quality process through the execution of complex module, subsystem, and system test procedures
  • You will travel to customer sites and project locations up to 70% of the time, including short-duration assignments and multiple 10/4 rotations as required by project needs
