About The Position

At Matrix PDM Engineering we strive to recruit, hire and develop high caliber Engineering graduates for our team. New college graduates will be based in one of our engineering offices; this role will be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA office. After training and establishing knowledge in basic work processes specific to the Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation (EI&C) Department a Controls Engineer I may be required to spend extended periods on industrial construction project sites, supporting system checkouts and facilitating the interface between the jobsite and home office engineering staff. Job Summary The Controls Engineer I is responsible for performing entry level design and analysis work as directed to support various engineering and construction projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in either Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering required.
• Entry-level Engineer, no experience required. Previous internship experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and equipment.
• Cooperates with other team members; interacts with individuals at all organizational levels in professional manner.
• Exhibits excellent listening, oral and written skills.
• Demonstrates good organizational skills and ability to follow directions.
• Demonstrates a proactive approach and consistently positive demeanor.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft products PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are required. Outlook and Teams preferred.
• Travel Requirements include field positions at construction sites throughout North America for extended durations (short term to long term assignments).
• Overtime may be required, particularly when assigned to project locations.
• Physical Demands - Light physical effort required to sit or stand, reach, bend, and move about facility (including ladders and stairs).

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of the design of facility control system architectures, control systems, networks, and software is preferred.
• Knowledge of programming techniques (Ladder logic, Function Block, Structured Text, etc.) preferred.
• Knowledge of automation tools such as Rockwell Automation tools (Factory Talk View, Studio 5000, Historian, etc.), Schneider, Siemens, GE or Wonderware is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine technical work which does not require previous experience. This includes but is not limited to:
• Preparing control system documents such as lists, reports, specifications and test documents
• Assisting with the preparation of control system drawing and specification packages
• Programming of control systems, including both PLC controllers and HMI packages
• Checkout and functional verification of control system programs.
• Acquires an understanding of professional and ethical standards.
• Collects data and gathers information or documents.
• Performs standard computations or analysis.
• Observes construction activities.
• Assists the construction team with the interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
• Communicates and transfers engineering data to aid field staff and craft.
• Communicates and transfers field issues to engineering group to improve engineering deliverables for efficient fabrication, erection, installation and testing of instruments and electrical equipment.
• Documents and assists in the resolution of technical issues that arise at the jobsite.
• Perform other related duties, as directed.
