Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in controls and automation.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design software.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a desire to understand how systems work.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% (domestic and occasional international).
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Controls Engineer working with PLCs and/or DCS.
  • Experience with Emerson Ovation Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Familiarity with Turbine Governor Systems and Hydro Control Units.
  • Ability to analyze engineering designs for logic or digital circuitry, motor controls, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems.
  • AutoCAD experience.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the execution of engineering projects for retrofit solutions in the North American hydro power industry.
  • Aid in the design and development of Hydro Governor and Plant Control systems.
  • Interpret technical specifications to aid in the creation and application of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical controls.
  • Contribute to the implementation of new system functionality based on customer requirements.
  • Program and adapt various control logic styles, including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Flow Diagrams.
  • Read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics to ensure accurate system integration.
  • Configure PLC and HMI software for custom applications.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and commission systems at customer sites.
  • Develop control narratives and hardware/software test procedures.
  • Build expertise as a subject matter authority in hydro-related control systems and plant operations.
