About The Position

A Controls Engineer performs a vital role in designing and developing systems for manufacturing operations. They may design layout, materials and information flow, or machine placement. Additionally, a Control Engineer can be responsible for increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing improvements. The Control Engineer works within the Drivetrain and Battery Systems All Wheel Drive Engineering matrixed organization in collaboration with the Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Computer and Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Extensive experience in Siemens PLC & HMI programming/troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Keyence Vision systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical manufacturing processes.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Kuka Robot experience (Kuka preferred but they need to have some robot experience aka: Fanuc, ABB, etc.).
  • Experience with AutoCAD (electrical design).
  • Familiarity with safety standards for industrial equipment (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and control systems for industrial automation systems.
  • Designs and drafts diagrams of cable connection for robots, robot end-of-arm tool, robot controller, and other machines.
  • Designs and drafts arrangement of linkage of conductors, relays, and other components of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication devices.
  • Install, troubleshoot and repair controls, instruments, equipment and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses including electrical/pneumatic issues.
  • Program and configure plant floor data interfaces (traceability).
  • Diagrams logic system for functions such as sequence and timing control.
  • Lead support for vision inspection systems.
  • Write work instructions for Controls processes including program, PLCs, automation, etc.
  • Support developing robust Process Control Plan for production.
  • Collaborates with other functional groups to illustrate and describe installation and maintenance details such as where bearings should be lubricated, types of lubrication, and which parts are lubricated automatically and manually.
  • Confers with equipment manufacturers to resolve problems regarding building of controls systems.
  • Reviews schematics with customer's representatives to answer questions during installation of robot systems.
  • Observes gauges during trial run of programmed machine and equipment operation to verify that electrical signals in system conform to specifications.
  • Designs controls for energy conversion or other industrial plant monitoring systems.
  • Troubleshoots electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Leads others in the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determines methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.
  • Performs tasks to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
