About The Position

As a Controls and Instrumentation Engineer you will perform C&I functions for space flight and non-space flight hardware for the NASA Propulsion Test branch at Marshall Space Flight Center. The C&I engineer will: · Support senior engineers with the testing of launch vehicle systems, sub-systems and elements. · Support senior engineers with the development of test article controls, instrumentation, and data systems. o Support senior engineers with the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Facility Operation Procedures (FOPs), Facility Activation Plans (FAPs), and Data analyses.

Requirements

  • Prefer an Electrical Engineering student from an ABET accredited institution at the junior/senior level.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%).
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%).
  • Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).
  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time in MS TEAMS meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, it requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Upon return to MSFC, it requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings and test stands at NASA and Amentum facilities (10%).
  • Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
  • Normal workdays are from 7:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job.
  • Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with PLCs development and operation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with software development for GUIs is a plus.
  • Familiarity in the use of data systems, pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, flowmeters and strain gages are a plus.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination with NASA project level customers across organizations to ensure mission success.
  • Work with a diverse team of civil servants and contractors to design, develop, setup, and perform propulsion and structural testing on space flight qualification hardware, and other mission critical hardware.
  • Participate in safety meetings, task meetings, design reviews, and test readiness reviews as requested to support ASED and customer requirements.
  • Develop and deliver reports and presentations as requested to support ASED and customer requirements via Power Point and other various software packages.
  • Perform safety and certification training to support ASED and customer requirements.
