About WhyGolf WhyGolf is a fast-growing golf performance company In Escondido, CA generating ~$10M in annual revenue across golf training aids, a subscription golf app, and a subscription online golf training academy (in development). We have an excellent reputation, trusted products, and strong brand awareness. We anticipate continued high-growth for the foreseeable future. Role Overview We’re looking for a hands-on Controller or a strong Senior Accountant ready to step up to own and build the financial backbone of the company. This person will be a senior leader and partner to the president and other executives on the team. This role is ideal for: A current Controller or a strong Senior Accountant who is ready to step into a Controller role in an exciting, high-energy business environment. You will own day-to-day finance functions, partner with leadership on strategic decisions, and help evolve systems, controls, and processes as the company scales from ~$10M upward. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves role with real influence and substantial economic opportunity.

Requirements

  • Strong background in general accrual accounting
  • Experience owning or heavily participating in the monthly close
  • Exposure to FP&A , budgeting, and forecasting
  • Experience with: Inventory accounting Cost accounting Payroll Insurance administration
  • Comfortable working in a growing, less-structured environment

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or public accounting background
  • Some exposure to e-commerce or Amazon accounting
  • Experience scaling systems or processes
  • A golf fan or player

Responsibilities

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close
  • Maintain GAAP-compliant accrual accounting
  • Prepare and review: P&L Balance Sheet Cash Flow
  • Manage revenue recognition across: Physical product sales Subscription app revenue Subscription training academy revenue
  • Maintain and evolve the chart of accounts
  • Build and maintain: Annual budgets Rolling forecasts Cash flow projections
  • Analyze: Gross margin by product line Subscription performance and churn Operating expenses vs plan
  • Provide leadership with clear, actionable financial reporting
  • Support pricing, hiring, and product decisions with financial modeling
  • Oversee cost accounting for offshore-manufactured products
  • Track and analyze: COGS Freight, duties, tariffs Inventory valuation and reserves
  • Partner with operations on: Inventory planning Cash usage Margin improvement
  • Oversee multi-state sales tax compliance through a third-party tax management provider
  • Ensure accurate data flow and filings across channels
  • Monitor nexus exposure as the business grows
  • Coordinate with external accountants and advisors as needed
  • Oversee payroll processing and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll requirements
  • Manage business insurance programs , including: General liability Product liability Workers’ comp
  • Coordinate renewals, audits, and broker relationships
  • Own and improve accounting systems and workflows
  • Implement and maintain basic internal controls
  • Prepare the company for: Lender reporting Potential audits Future capital raises
  • Manage external partners (CPA firm, tax providers, payroll, insurance)
