About The Position

Heartland Traffic Services (HTS) is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations of our Kansas City branch. HTS is a full-service pavement marking and traffic control company committed to roadway safety and operational excellence as part of the Road Safety Services (RSS) family. This role reports to the Branch Manager and will lead accounting operations, financial reporting, project accounting, and a small accounting team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience managing month-end close
• Prior team leadership experience
• Strong Excel and accounting systems skills

Nice To Haves

• Construction or project-based accounting
• COINS ERP experience
• CPA or CMA (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and company policies
• Manage tax and regulatory filings (sales/use tax, IFTA, fleet registrations, etc.)
• Prepare monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, and management dashboards
• Analyze budget vs. actual results and provide insights to leadership
• Partner with project managers to track job costs and profitability
• Lead and develop a team of four responsible for billing, AP, payroll, collections, and project accounting
• Support process improvements and accounting controls
