About The Position

Avalon is a vertically integrated builder, making everything—pontoons, framing, furniture, and more—right here in our own facility. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our financial operations and provide strategic guidance to the executive team. This role is critical in driving financial performance, ensuring compliance, and supporting growth initiatives in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Requirements

  • Required bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA or CMA is preferred)
  • 7-10 years previous experience as a Controller preferred, with progressive hands-on accounting experience.
  • Strongly prefer experience in the manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing cost accounting, standard costing, Bill of Materials requirements (BOMs) and inventory management
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing costing methods and financial analysis
  • Experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing setting
  • Advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze large data sets.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite desired.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Detail-oriented with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership Act as the primary financial advisor to the executive team, providing insights for strategic planning, pricing, and capital investments.
  • Develop and manage company-wide budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial models.
  • Oversee banking, lender relationships, and financing initiatives for growth and capital deployment.
  • Manage corporate insurance programs, including property, liability, and employee coverage.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
  • Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and coordinate audits and tax filings.
  • Manufacturing Cost Accounting & Inventory Monitor and manage product costing models for pontoon boat manufacturing.
  • Review material, labor, and overhead variances; partner with operations for corrective actions.
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation, including WIP, raw materials, and finished goods.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis Drive annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Analyze gross margins by product line and support pricing decisions through cost analysis.
  • Leadership & Operational Support Oversee front office functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Reception, and HR.
  • Ensure effective use of ERP and accounting systems to support manufacturing operations.
  • Recommend improvements where applicable.
  • Manage all employee benefits, expenditures, and general insurance offerings for the Company.
  • Promote continuous improvement in accounting processes, reporting, and data accuracy.
