The Controller position at Academic Urology and Urogynecology of Arizona is critical in managing tax, finance, and accounting operations. This role involves producing financial reports, maintaining comprehensive accounting records, and designing controls and budgets to mitigate risk, increase accuracy, drive revenue by maximizing under-utilized resources, and ensure compliance with accounting regulations.

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities while ensuring robust redundancy and backup processes for all critical financial operations in a clinical setting.
  • Uphold existing accounting policies tailored to the specific needs of a medical practice, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Manage and execute detailed month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting closeout schedules, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Monitor and assess emerging financial technologies to enhance reporting efficiency, enabling the leadership team to make data-driven decisions and prevent leakage.
  • Collaborate in calculating financial forecasts and variances, executing overhead and revenue analyses from budgets, and promptly reporting significant issues to the executive team.
  • Establish and manage weekly/monthly expense forecasting processes to maintain financial health and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable processes, ensuring timely billing and payment cycles essential for practice cash flow.
  • Manage banking relationships, ensuring effective cash management and accounting for clinical expenses. Initiate loan/LOC requests and convey information to shareholders.
  • Develop and maintain financial performance metrics to support clinical estimators in budgeting and forecasting initiatives.
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts, investigate discrepancies, and provide corrective actions when necessary.
  • Oversee business insurance needs, including General Liability, Workers' Compensation, and Auto policies, as well as managing certificates of insurance (COIs).
  • Ensure compliance with necessary tax regulations, permits, and licensing requirements specific to healthcare operations.
  • Handle all required payment applications and waiver documentation, maintaining compliance in financial transactions.
  • Summarize budget trends, identify deficiencies, and report variances to the leadership team, fostering a proactive approach to financial management.
  • Work closely with external accounting firms on tax preparation and strategies to minimize tax liabilities while coordinating with the practice owner.
  • Work with Operations, Billing, and Supply & Logistics Departments to ensure minimize overspending and maximize revenue.
  • Manage the payroll process, overseeing compensation and benefits.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement more effective financial processes and controls tailored for a healthcare environment.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Shareholders or the Director of Operations.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is preferred.
  • Familiarity in healthcare.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks.
