About The Position

The Controller assists the CFO in managing the fiscal services department of Kindred Hospital Riverside. This role involves overseeing financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and compliance with financial policies. The Controller is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, coordinating financial activities across departments, and participating in strategic planning to support the hospital's mission and vision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 3 years' prior management experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting, finance, reimbursement, budgeting, credit, and collection as it relates to healthcare.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and accounting systems.

  • Experience with Patient Accounting systems and General Ledger systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the CFO in managing the fiscal services department.
  • Develop, interpret, and administer hospital policies on finance and accounting.
  • Maintain departmental reports and records, and collect statistical data for administrative purposes.
  • Coordinate functions of reimbursements, budget, patient accounting, and general accounting.
  • Prepare reports outlining the hospital's financial position in all areas of assets, liabilities, income, and expenses.
  • Participate in planning and creating the hospital's strategic and operational plans.
  • Assist in planning and developing departmental budgets and resource allocation.
  • Direct the coordination of departmental services with other hospital functions.
  • Communicate the hospital's mission and plans to staff and motivate them accordingly.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of the hospital's financial statements.
  • Manage multiple subordinate department managers and their staff.
  • Participate in the hospital's financial processes and adhere to financial policies.
  • Assist in developing accounting and internal control policies and systems.
  • Provide guidance in preparing and analyzing financial reports and statements.
  • Monitor departmental performance in conformance with the budget.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of the hospital's insurance coverage and handle sensitive cases.
  • Participate in analyzing financial implications of proposed capital projects.
  • Review contracts and make recommendations regarding their viability.
  • Assist department heads in analyzing and interpreting financial data.
  • Facilitate external audits and examinations.
