We are looking to hire a Nonprofit Controller for our Client Accounting and Advisory Service (CAAS) who can sit in our Arlington, VA office. CAAS helps our clients transform their business with a collaborative approach that allows them to seamlessly mitigate risk, overcome challenges, meet deadlines, and identify personnel to help them with their workforce needs. Job Description: Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting. Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information. Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies. Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations. Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI). Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions. Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions. Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience: 6 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (Nonprofit industry and back-office accounting experience is highly preferred).
  • Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems.
  • Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
  • An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting
  • Strong organization skills/goal orientation/self-motivation.
  • Ability to handle pressure in a positive professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Communication that is clear, concise, and considerate of the needs of others.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and value the different contributions people make.
  • Proven success in managing work and key client relationships to exceed client expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
  • QuickBooks, Intacct, Salesforce experience is preferred.
