About The Position

As a Control Systems Technician supporting Bayer Crop Science in Chesterfield, you'll ensure the reliable operation of state-of-the-art research greenhouses and growth chambers. This role is critical to maintaining optimal plant growth conditions by monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing complex environmental control systems. You'll work directly with Conviron and Argus software platforms, helping researchers achieve precise control over temperature, humidity, lighting, and irrigation. Your work will directly contribute to Bayer's mission of advancing agricultural innovation while supporting JLL's standard of world-class facility management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or associate's degree.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, instrumentation, and automated building control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Demonstrated safety mindset and compliance with OSHA and facility protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or higher in Electronics, Automation, or related technical field.
  • Experience in greenhouse operations, growth chambers, or controlled environment agriculture.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, BAS/BMS, and CMMS systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with sensors, HVAC, and irrigation controls.
  • Knowledge of data logging systems, environmental monitoring, or research compliance standards.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to support cross-functional research teams.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving facility needs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain greenhouse and growth chamber control systems (Conviron, Argus).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with sensors, HVAC, lighting, irrigation, and control networks.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on control panels, PLCs, HMIs, and instrumentation.
  • Calibrate environmental monitoring devices to ensure accurate readings for research conditions.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and facility teams to support ongoing experiments.
  • Document work orders, repairs, and system updates in CMMS in compliance with SOPs.
  • Support system upgrades, validation testing, and continuous improvement projects.
