About The Position

The Control Systems Technician supports field service operations by performing troubleshooting, startup, installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial electrical and control systems. This role works closely with Controls Engineers, Programmers, Integrators, and Project Managers to ensure automation systems are installed, commissioned, and operating safely and efficiently. This position is highly field-oriented and requires hands-on technical capability in industrial environments.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in industrial electrical and control systems.
  • Excellent Computer Skills
  • Experience working with: PLC/HMI/SCADA Systems VFDs and motor controls Industrial instrumentation and sensors Industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, etc.) Pneumatics and Hydraulics
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Comfortable using multimeters and other electrical diagnostic tools. (24vdc up to 480VAC)
  • Experience working in live industrial environments.
  • Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel and occasionally work extended hours during commissioning or shutdown activities.
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial electrical, automation, or control system field service.
  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field preferred (or equivalent field experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience assisting with IR scans, arc flash data collection, or power quality studies preferred but not required.
  • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
  • OSHA
  • MSHA
  • NFPA 70E training
  • Manufacturer certifications (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Ignition, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform field troubleshooting of electrical and control systems including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor control circuits, instrumentation, pneumatics, hydraulics, and networked devices.
  • Assist with system startup, commissioning, and functional testing of new or modified automation systems.
  • Support installation activities including panel terminations, device wiring verification, loop checks, and I/O validation.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and automation-related issues in industrial and manufacturing environments.
  • Work closely with Programmers to implement program updates and validate system functionality in the field.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and system upgrades.
  • Collect field data to support Engineering Services, including: Infrared (IR) Scans Arc Flash data collection Power Quality meter setup and monitoring Equipment labeling verification Short circuit and coordination study data gathering
  • Install and configure temporary monitoring equipment such as power analyzers and data loggers.
  • Document field findings, mark up drawings, and provide clear reporting of issues and corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, electricians, and internal teams during service calls.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and compliance with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
  • Travel to customer facilities to perform service, startup, troubleshooting, and data collection work.
