The Control System Technician I (CST) at Citizens Energy Group is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, improving, and repairing wastewater treatment processes at treatment plants and pumping stations. This role requires collaboration with skilled trades, managers, and engineers to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions using modern control system technology. The CST plays a crucial role in optimizing processes and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair wastewater treatment process control system and SCADA equipment.
  • Research equipment operational problems and identify primary failure cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Operate various types of tools and testing equipment.
  • Work with other skilled trades and Master Control Operators to troubleshoot equipment and system failures.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing PLC programs, processing systems and SCADA software to improve performance and reliability.
  • Research, develop, document, and optimize PLC programs to control wastewater systems according to customer expectations and regulatory guidelines.
  • Update schematics, wiring diagrams, calibration sheets and manuals as necessary.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures and Theory of Operation documents.
  • Provide direction to other skilled trades to assist in troubleshooting and repair.
  • Train and educate other employees on control systems and operation of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
  • Associate degree in an electrical, instrumentation or machine control field and 1-3 years of experience as an Instrumentation Technician, Electrician, Control System Analyst or Control System Programmer in an industrial process environment, or 3 plus years of experience in a similar role with documented continuing education or certificates.
  • Experience with Rockwell Allen Bradley PLC programming, Factory Talk SCADA software, RS logix software, Studio5000 Designer and Plant Pax or an equivalent industrial control system.
  • Ability to program physical devices using standard programming languages such as ladder logic, functional block diagrams, sequential flow diagrams or instructional text.
  • Advanced math skills and knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Ability to write technical documents, such as Sequence of Operations or Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Knowledge of environmental rules, regulations, auditing, and reporting procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Documented Lock-Out-Tag-Out and Arc Flash procedure training.
  • Valid Indiana driver's license.
  • Level 1 Control System Technician certification or equivalent, with the ability to obtain certification within 4 years of start date.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field from an accredited university.
  • Level 2 Control Systems Technician certification or equivalent.
  • Certified Rockwell RSLogix Programmer.
  • Documented courses or certification in information technology networking, servers, or data storage.
  • Wastewater operator's license of any level.
  • Knowledge of CMMS programs such as INFOR EAM, HANSEN, MP2, and 7i.
