We have multiple openings for Control System Engineers to participate in the development and implementation of distributed process control systems for a variety of large research and development projects such as radar, accelerator and laser-based systems in support of national security missions. These positions are in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate at LLNL. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. These positions will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. In this role you will Develop moderately complex to complex system control strategies and applications. Develop applications for supervisory, automated processing and/or device level controls, and diagnose problems with electronic systems using LabVIEW and commercial control system environments. Document designs and implement software under configuration management. Refine and manage the system requirement specifications and control software design. Conduct and contribute to formal and informal code and design reviews. Coordinate with the various programmatic and project elements to ensure effective teamwork and end-user communication. Collaborate with physicists, engineers, computer scientists, and external vendors to integrate controls with experimental and facility systems. Ensure that Engineering safety standards are met on all projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.3 level Independently research and develop solutions to complex problems that are frequently not well defined, requiring in-depth analysis to advance the architecture of the control system. Work independently with minimal direction to develop and deploy complex instrumentation control applications Apply advanced knowledge to implement complex controls software, develop and execute test plans, and guide project completion in support of organizational goals.
