About The Position

As a Control Room Operator at Arizona G&T Cooperatives, your day-to-day responsibilities will include monitoring and managing energy distribution systems to ensure optimal performance. Requirements

Thorough knowledge of machinery and techniques as applied to operation of steam power plant and combustion turbines.
Steam boilers, boiler control systems, boiler auxiliary equipment, feed pumps systems, feed water heaters, turbine generators and switchboard for generator, switchyard and auxiliary controls, combustion turbines which may include (LM6000, Westinghouse 501B, GE Frame 5 etc.).
This includes ability to operate any or all of the above listed equipment.
Working knowledge of electrical transmission systems.
Working knowledge of plant layout and all piping systems including location and operation of control valves in the systems.
Operating knowledge of electrical equipment relays, switchgear and controls installed in the steam plant and combustion turbine facility.
Thorough knowledge of the capability and limitation of all plant equipment and subsystems including normal and emergency maximum rates of changing load.
Thorough knowledge of plant operating procedures and ability to make normal operating decisions according to established procedures and safe operating practices.
High school education or equivalent including considerable steam plant/combustion turbine operating experience equivalent to three or four years of responsible steam plant/combustion turbine operation.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations as related to occupational duties.
Any equivalent combination of related education, training, and/or experience can be substituted for requirements listed above.

Nice To Haves

Two (2) years AOIII experience.
Desired coal fired power plant/combustion turbine experience.

Responsibilities

Maintain hourly readings, logging operations and maintain other records and forms required or requested, reporting to the Shift Supervisor any irregularities or malfunctions of equipment.
Operate major equipment by remote control as listed, as well as any other associated equipment related to the responsibilities listed herein: The boilers, including primary, forced and induced draft fans, air heaters, boiler feed pumps, the startup system, boiler electronic analog controls, turbine generator drives, booster pumps, fuel oil and coal firing systems, including pumps, conveyor system, coal feeders, pulverizing equipment and soot blowers.
The combustion turbines and auxiliaries.
The turbine startup and shutdown equipment and turbine generator loading through the turbine control systems.
Generating synchronizing and reactive loading by means of voltage regulating equipment.
Various motor and pneumatically operated valves.
115KV, 230OKV, and 69KV switchyard and power circuit breakers.
Operate all rotating auxiliary equipment necessary to maintain continuous power generation from all units at the generating station.
Maintain a continuous watch of all control room gauges, instruments, recorders, annunciators and control data for unusual or emergency conditions and take necessary corrective action to restore conditions to normal, taking into consideration other unit capabilities and system conditions.
Direct the work of the operators assigned in operating and checking equipment for which the control operator is responsible.
Direct other operators to perform certain important duties not capable of being taken care of from the control room and keep these operators informed of existing plant conditions and/or related information that has an effect on the plant operation.
Promote the training, proficiency and efficiency of personnel under his supervision.
Maintain a log on all relay operations in accordance with established procedures.
Perform other occupational group related duties as required, and for which qualified to perform safely.
Complete training assignments as directed.
Strive to become proficient in the Control Room Operator position.
