About The Position

Join the Fredericksburg Sheriff's Office as a Control Room Operator, a civilian role crucial to maintaining security and order. This position, operating within a para-military structure, requires individuals to effectively monitor inmate activities and manage security protocols without direct inmate contact. Key Responsibilities: Monitor inmate and staff activities using CCTV and intercom systems Ensure security of inmates and personnel in secure areas Control access to courthouses for visitors and authorized personnel Report on rule infractions and unusual occurrences Dispatch messages via radio communications as needed Respond to fire alarms and take appropriate actions Maintain detailed records and prepare reports Comply with departmental policies and procedures Follow orders from superior deputies Participate in required training programs Maintain logs of inmate movement Provide permissible information to citizens and law enforcement Ensure compliance with VLEPSC standards and Virginia Code Understand emergency procedures for various scenarios

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; criminal justice coursework preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or public safety
  • Ability to operate control room equipment and machinery
  • Familiarity with departmental policies and office procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret legal and procedural documents
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions and perform clerical tasks
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret various instructions
