About The Position

The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating various systems in the main Control Room to ensure the safe and efficient support of RMLD operations and customer service. This role requires shift work to provide 24/7 coverage and involves tasks related to integrated automation subsystems, communication systems, emergency response, and customer service. The operator will work under the supervision of the General Foreman Operations and assist in various operational tasks, including outage management and system monitoring.

Requirements

  • High school or electrical trade school graduate with specialized courses in the electrical field or computer science.
  • Associates Degree in computer science, cartography, engineering, or equivalent preferred.
  • One-year technical experience in an electric utility distribution system or equivalent.
  • Experience in troubleshooting support of electric distribution operations using control room computer systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with dispatching emergency operating procedures and GIS mapping preferred.
  • Knowledge of control room computer systems assets and good command of the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating complex communications systems related to system distributions and metering.
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping and editing.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor status of substation and field switching equipment via SCADA.
  • Operate switching equipment for routine or emergency work as directed by authorized Control Authority.
  • Monitor Outage Management System (OMS) for outage detection and assist in isolation and restoration via SCADA.
  • Maintain, update, and distribute reports and records related to OMS and Distribution Management System (DMS).
  • Produce outage management reports to support troubleshooting and restoration efforts.
  • Monitor and report the functionality of the fixed network and metering system.
  • Assist in the Work Order Management System to retrieve historic data and other pertinent data.
  • Assist in the update and management of GIS data related to distribution functions.
  • Monitor functionality and data input/export between all subsystems within the DMS.
  • Assist in the development of technical training programs and individual Career Development Programs.
  • Participate in tailboard switching briefings and enforce operational safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete and maintain required reporting documents to support system reliability.
