About The Position

The Control Room Operator is responsible for the operation of the power generating plant under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor. This role involves monitoring and controlling the operation of boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and reliable power generation. The operator works on a rotating shift schedule and coordinates actions with other operators and system operators, while also maintaining logs and records of plant operations.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years' experience in power plant operations.
• Knowledge of power plant operation principles, including steam water cycle, basic electricity, hydraulics, and fluid and gas properties.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and interpret data.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Microsoft Office software.
• Additional certifications related to power plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Controls operation of power generation units as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
• Coordinates operation of auxiliary equipment with Auxiliary Operator.
• Monitors plant operations and identifies normal and abnormal conditions.
• Corrects abnormal operating conditions and keeps the Shift Supervisor informed.
• Maintains plant logs and records as directed, including submitting Maintenance Requests for significant problems.
• Trains other plant personnel in the operation of the power plant.
• Monitors alarms and takes appropriate action to safeguard equipment and personnel.
• Acts as a communications liaison between WFEC System Operators, other WFEC plants, and the community.
• Performs mechanical maintenance, E&I maintenance, or laboratory duties when not assigned to generation.
