About The Position

The Control Room Operator (CRO) at NAES Corporation is responsible for coordinating the operations of the Syracuse Combined Cycle Plant and occasionally supporting the Beaver Falls facility. This role involves managing plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency situations using the Distributed Control System (DCS), while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The CRO monitors plant systems, performs preventive maintenance, and documents operations to maintain efficient and safe plant performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate Degree in a technical field is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in a control room operations role or similar position within an operating or generating plant.
  • Proven ability to coordinate plant operations using the Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Proficient experience in operating DCS control panels for efficient combustion and electric load management.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations and industrial safety is highly desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with piping and instrument schematics and process controls.
  • Experience in hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate plant operations, including start-up, shutdown, and emergency situations using the Distributed Control System (DCS).
  • Operate DCS control panels to regulate steam temperature and pressure, feedwater, and fuel supply.
  • Continuously monitor all major plant systems and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Execute emergency actions to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain electric service.
  • Promptly report regulatory violations, operational upsets, or other anomalies to the Plant Manager.
  • Respond to dispatch orders and requests from the NYISO and Transmission Operator.
  • Record comprehensive and accurate entries in the plant operating log.
  • Review and authorize safety-related activities, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) and Hot Work permits.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities on plant equipment as directed by the CMMS.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant systems and equipment to ensure reliable operations.
  • Utilize the CMMS effectively by documenting equipment issues and maintenance actions.
  • Support reliable facility operation by working assigned shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed.
