About The Position

The Control Room Operator is responsible for all activities associated with running the slitter/scorer, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations. This role involves entering information into computers for order changes, verifying accuracy, executing order changes, and ensuring the quality of the board being produced. The operator must communicate necessary adjustments to the wet end, clear jams safely, and assist in correcting problems while adhering to production schedules and company policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
  • 6 months experience on the dry end of the corrugator.
  • 6 months experience on the wet end of the corrugator.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
  • Ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate.
  • Ability to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities.
  • Understanding of product layouts and production specifications.
  • Knowledge of product quality specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Enter information into computers to set machine for order changes, scores, speed, stack height, sheet count, and number of outs.
  • Verify accuracy of information in computer.
  • Execute order changes.
  • Cross check board being produced with the corrugator dry end lineup or order scheduling computer display.
  • Visually observe and physically check board for quality.
  • Set slitter to bring up the next run as necessary to avoid overruns or underruns.
  • Set-up tear-tape machine and preprint as needed.
  • Communicate messages to the wet end regarding necessary adjustments.
  • Clear jams safely and assist in correcting other problems.
  • Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs.
  • Adhere to production schedule and make recommendations for optimizing the schedule.
  • Assist in the training of dry end personnel.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
