About The Position

The Control Room/Boiler Operator at Baystate Health is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam boilers, gas turbine generators, and auxiliary equipment within the power plant. This role is crucial for ensuring that the medical center's energy demands are met efficiently and safely. The operator will monitor equipment performance, perform preventive maintenance, and adhere to safety regulations while working in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Massachusetts Fireman Class II License
• Boiler operating experience

Nice To Haves

• Gas Turbine operating experience

Responsibilities

• Operate the steam boilers, gas turbine generator, and all auxiliary equipment to maintain the necessary Medical Center demands.
• Monitor established operating parameters of the gas turbine generator/HRSG, stand-by steam boilers, and associated plant equipment.
• Assure that the Steam Absorber, Chillers, and related equipment are operating properly and efficiently.
• Maintain work area in a safe, clean, and orderly manner.
• Operate the Power Plant and take appropriate actions to safeguard shift personnel and equipment when normal operating parameters are exceeded.
• Perform necessary tests to determine water purity and take necessary action to remedy as required.
• Check and record appropriate equipment-related information, maintain written log book, and contact appropriate management personnel when necessary.
• Work in support of other trades as needed.
• Utilize all power plant-related tools and equipment, as well as all computer-related systems.
• Accurately and legibly record meter and oil tank readings on a daily basis and calculate boiler efficiencies.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Startup and shutdown of the boilers and equipment as directed, lubricate machinery and equipment as assigned.
• Keep the manager of the Power Plant informed of all operational and safety issues as observed while performing operational duties.
