The Control Algorithms Manager will work as a member of the Electrical/Electronic Systems & Components engineering team at Thermo King, supporting transport refrigeration system development. This role will balance responsibilities between managing direct reports and contributing technically to embedded controls development projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will play a supporting role in strategic planning activities and provide input to ongoing discussions around continuous improvement within the Controls development process. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of control algorithms and understand how interactions with hardware, software, validation test, and systems engineering teams contribute to a successful product.

  • Manage direct reports, ensuring they are effectively allocated across various project teams.
  • Mentor and supervise team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure that direct reports have the necessary tools, training, and support to succeed in their roles.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of direct reports, providing feedback and supporting professional development.
  • Develop controller models for system-level control algorithms and logic that provide superior performance, enhance reliability, and diagnostics.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance model-based design capabilities, enabling acceleration of value delivery to internal and external customers.
  • Work with software development teams to integrate model-generated software into application software.
  • Adhere to model development standards and processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in control systems and apply relevant knowledge to ongoing projects.
  • Assist in planning and road-mapping activities for embedded controller development.
  • Provide input on project timelines, resource allocation, and technology strategies.
  • Support aligning project goals with organizational objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term strategies for control systems innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required.
  • At least 7 years' experience in controls, electronics, systems, or software engineering experience is required.
  • At least 2 years' experience leadership in either people or technical management.
  • Experience with model-based design processes and modeling & simulation of complex systems is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a small team of engineers.
  • Understanding of control system design.
  • Classical control knowledge required (PID control, linear control, digital filtering).
  • Understanding of optimization techniques is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Simulink and Stateflow is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Azure DevOps beneficial.
  • Experience in automating processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge in refrigeration, vapor compression, or thermodynamics/fluid dynamics is a plus.
  • Knowledge in compressors, engines, or power electronics is a plus.
