About The Position

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, has an immediate need for a Contribution Specialist in our San Diego, CA location. This individual will manage a limited caseload of Contribution claims files and assist with special projects for the team as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Credential such as GED, HiSET, or TASC required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of California workers compensation adjusting experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret information and documents contained in claim files including legal reports, injury reports, medical reports, and investigative reports.
  • Ability to compose settlement documents, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization, as well as external parties, in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical claims situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic data analytic skills to perform solid data collection, analysis, and reporting required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products required.
  • Knowledge of claims software systems and ability to master and become proficient on proprietary and vended software programs required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university highly preferred.
  • Prior litigation support experience a plus.
  • Basic workers compensation adjusting knowledge and familiarity with regulatory standards for the State of California preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and legal clerical procedures pertaining to the preparation and processing of basic contribution settlement documentation highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a limited caseload of Contribution Consultation files (co-defendant seeking contribution from BHHC).
  • Analyzes coverage and cumulative trauma injury periods, medical evidence, co-defendant demands and payment records to identify and make recommendations on contribution and reimbursement to co-defendant based on the Labor Code, case law, and facts of the case.
  • Accurately completes and updates the Contribution Logs and Module, maintains active Diary and Notepad documentation until contribution issues have been resolved.
  • Actively evaluates and codes all Joint Coverage fields in the Contribution Module and Claims Maintenance screens.
  • Communicates with and seeks authority from Claims Professionals and/or Management to coordinate negotiation and settlement of contribution on consultation files.
  • Prepares Contribution Stipulations as appropriate.
  • Participates in a variety of Contribution-related projects, such as process mapping and process improvements, as time permits.
