About the position

The Contracts Specialist II at Saint Louis University is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of research-related contracts and agreements, including Clinical Trial Agreements and Sponsored Research Agreements. This role requires a moderate-to-high degree of complexity and adherence to federal, state, and local laws, as well as university policies. The position also involves mentoring junior employees and providing necessary training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial review of research-related agreements for University compliance.
  • Review incoming contract packages for completeness and availability of necessary information.
  • Consult with necessary University personnel regarding the nature of each sponsored program and its unique impact on the legal language contained in the related agreement(s).
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and execute clinical research contracts in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Negotiate agreements with external sponsors and collaborating entities to benefit the University.
  • Analyze and interpret federal and state law and University policies to creatively solve problems in agreements.
  • Assess contracts for compliance with University policy and state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate the review of non-standard terms and conditions with appropriate University offices.
  • Manage workflow to achieve and maintain performance standards established by senior management.
  • Maintain written documentation and correspondence in the contract management database.
  • Monitor agreement termination dates, renewal, and cancellation deadlines in the contract management database.
  • Generate reports and perform other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior-level employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of federal and local laws related to research, including the Uniform Guidance and Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Knowledge of University policies related to research administration.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations applicable to human subjects research, such as Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), HIPAA, FDA regulations, and AAHRPP requirements.
  • Knowledge of contract law principles, negotiation theory, and rule interpretation principles.
  • Interpersonal/human relations skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
