Under the general guidance of the Chief Administrative Officer, the Contracts & Grants Manager oversees the daily operations of research administration in the UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) and manages the various financial resources that support its research mission. The incumbent provides subject-matter expertise, training, and supervisory oversight of the UCI MIND Research Admin Team. The position requires advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity research portfolio of federal, state, and private contracts and grants, including clinical and training grants. Responsible for high level analysis, reporting, audit, and maintenance of internal controls. Involves activities associated with analyzing research funding trends and sources, forecasting, strategic planning, and managing research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: working directly with faculty on grant proposals; administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award/subcontract issuance and administration. May review and sign transactions for less experienced staff. As the technical lead, the incumbent will support the CAO and Director throughout the academic year by managing financial processes and reporting as required during the budget cycle. Incumbent will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of departmental accounts, including gift and endowment accounts. This position requires sound communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills which are often within a team environment.
