About The Position

Reporting to the Technical Manager, the Contractor Monitor ensures contractor compliance with Brookfield Renewable North America’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) policies and protocols across assigned capital projects at BRNA assets across Maine (Saco to Millinocket), New Hampshire (Berlin area) and Western Massachusetts. Travel across the region will be required (up to 60% of the time) with limited overnight travel expected.

Requirements

  • Core knowledge of construction techniques, construction/project management, and basic contract administration;
  • Demonstrate sufficient technical knowledge to inspect ongoing construction activities and verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, permits, and drawings;
  • An ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects;
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface and coordinate work daily with other Brookfield divisions and external organizations;
  • Good negotiation skills with clients, contractors, and vendors;
  • Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and with minimal daily supervision;
  • Employ a practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to issues;
  • The ability to address contractor performance, safety, and contractual matters through clear, firm, and constructive communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience/exposure in power generation field preferred;
  • Field experience with hazards associated with heavy civil construction work;
  • Experience in occupational health & safety and environmental regulation;
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction certification preferred;
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure contractors, sub-contractors and their employees are complying with safety & environmental regulations and requirements of the contract;
  • Attend/conduct pre-bid and preconstruction meetings, documenting minutes;
  • Prepare job planning documentation working closely with project stakeholders;
  • Conduct field inspections of work performed onsite to confirm conformance with contract documents, engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes. Prepare and submit daily construction reports, reporting on health & safety, environmental, and construction progress;
  • Detect and escalate project issues as they arise, developing and recommending effective corrective measures to management. Recommend corrective courses of action to management as issues arise;
  • Recommend changes in the work plan if efficiencies in work practices can be improved;
  • Assess the quality and completeness of daily Job Safety Plans (JSPs) for safety and environmental compliance. Conduct Safe Work and Environmental Observations on medium and high risk work;
  • Attend and actively participate in all contractor Safety Meetings during project execution
  • Track costs and provide monthly forecast per the contract including change orders;
  • Conduct contractor post-work evaluations in regards to health and safety, environmental, technical, project management and financial performance.
