About The Position

Note: International Assignment - Location: Wales, UK - Approximate duration: 24 Months The Contract Manager will act as the EPCM commercial governance lead at Port Talbot, responsible for managing contractor interfaces, ensuring contract adherence, preventing claims, controlling variations, and maintaining commercial discipline through the execution stage. While contractual ownership, PO issuance and commercial authority remain with TSUK, this role ensures that contract execution aligns with scope, schedule, deliverables, and technical requirements, minimizing commercial exposure and disputes. The Contract Manager becomes the link between technical progress and commercial clarity — protecting project value and ensuring decisions are backed by contractual logic.

Requirements

  • 25 years experience in Contracts/Commercial management in EPC/EPCM projects.
  • Strong exposure to steel/metals/process industry contracts.
  • Hands-on experience in contract administration during execution phase, not just pre-award.
  • Capability to evaluate technical impacts financially (scope, time, LDs, variation handling).
  • Prior experience in brownfield mega projects or heavy industrial environments.
  • Ability to work onsite Port Talbot ~2 years with required travel flexibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with FIDIC/NEC/JCT or similar contracting frameworks.
  • Experience with UK contract governance advantageous.
  • CDI/TCE USA or international EPCM delivery background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and implement contract terms, conditions, milestones, obligations, and deliverables.
  • Monitor contractor performance vs scope, schedule, payment terms & deliverables.
  • Track contract compliance, insurance, guarantees, warranties, LD applicability etc.
  • Maintain contract correspondence, approvals & commercial communication trail.
  • Manage Change Control Process — scope deviation, technical changes, claims triggers.
  • Review change requests for technical validity, cost/time impact, documentation completeness.
  • Coordinate with Engineering & Procurement for quantification of variations.
  • Maintain Change Log, VO Register & Impact Dashboard.
  • Identify early commercial risk indicators and potential claim situations.
  • Ensure instructions / decisions are documented with contractual traceability.
  • Support resolution through negotiation or technical clarification when disputes arise.
  • Assist TSUK in defending contractual positions with structured documentation.
  • Provide contract status reports, risk outlook & exposure summary for monthly reviews.
  • Maintain visibility of milestone payments, retention, security release conditions.
  • Present key commercial issues to Steering Committee with recommended actions.
  • Work closely with Procurement Manager, Construction Manager & Engineering Manager.
  • Coordinate with TSUK legal/commercial team for decisions & escalations.
  • Participate in contractor meetings to ensure commitments & obligations are tracked.
  • Maintain strong vendor/contractor relationships while protecting project interests.
