As a Contract Logistics Specialist at Kuehne+Nagel, you will manage end-to-end warehousing operations for our customers. By doing so with precision, you not only contribute to the success of your team, but also to the day-to-day operations and success in the warehouse and distribution centres. For example, storing and delivering delicate flowers and fresh ingredients to local stores for everyday lunches and family celebrations. The Automation Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated systems that drive efficiency and accuracy in our distribution processes and will report to the Automation Manager. Located in Shelbyville, KY, the schedule for this role is Monday-Friday, morning shift but it can change due to the business needs.

  • Install, maintain, and repair automated machinery and control systems used in warehouse operations.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on conveyor systems, robotic arms, PLCs, and sensors.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and software issues in automation equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement system upgrades and process improvements.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend enhancements to improve throughput and reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, calibrations, and system modifications
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and operational protocols
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in automation within a warehouse, logistics environment or equivalent.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field or combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI interfaces, and industrial networking
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, electrical schematics, and control logic
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and automated storage/retrieval systems (AS/RS) is a plus
  • Familiarity with robotics integration and IoT technologies is a plus
  • Certifications in industrial automation or safety compliance (e.g., OSHA, ISA) is a plus.
