About The Position

The Contract and Grants Specialist at the University of Hawai'i plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) grant program. This position involves providing administrative leadership, coordinating research program objectives, and ensuring compliance with funding agency requirements. The specialist will also manage budgetary reports, assist in proposal preparation, and act as a liaison between various stakeholders involved in the grant process.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Communication, Biomedical Science or related field.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in research administration or related field.
  • Considerable knowledge of research administration principles and practices.
  • Understanding of federal and state laws related to extramural grant funding.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems using creative reasoning and logic.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and presentations.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in personal computer and software applications, including MS Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Research Program Coordinator or Project Administrator.
  • Experience in proposal preparation for securing funds.
  • Familiarity with UH and RCUH policies and procedures.
  • Experience using Kuali Financial System (KFS) and myGRANT.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations of the INBRE grant program.
  • Assists INBRE leadership with research program objectives and annual reviews.
  • Prepares annual reports and presentations for Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Schedules and coordinates various functions, including research retreats and conferences.
  • Acts as a liaison between funding agencies and internal entities to resolve issues related to grants.
  • Inputs, reviews, and approves HR and Fiscal transactions on behalf of the Principal Investigator.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual budgetary reports for fiscal oversight.
  • Collaborates with investigators and provides guidance on grant applications.
  • Analyzes funding agency Requests for Applications (RFAs) to ensure compliance.
  • Directs submission and management of grant renewals and reports.
