About The Position

The ideal DVIS candidate is one who is interested in joining a workplace culture that encourages self-care, an environment of continuous learning and strong peer support. We are looking for people to join a team of advocates who use trauma informed approaches that will scaffold and support our clients and their children. Our advocacy programs embrace the philosophy that people experiencing violence and/or abuse have the potential to control their lives and can be helped in doing so through support, information, and encouragement. We believe that our organization should model behavior that is nonviolent and uses power responsibly for personal and organizational action and growth. Hours: Hours vary. Monday - Thursday Evening Group, 6pm, you will not be teaching each night. More hours could be likely.

Requirements

  • At minimum a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or a related field required.
  • Experience in advocacy in the domestic violence field, preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills are required.
  • Some evening work will be required.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively work towards the eradication of interpersonal violence through prevention work with perpetrators of violence.
  • Provide professional psycho-education curriculum to offenders of domestic violence who are recommended, or court ordered to complete a Batterer’s Intervention Program.
  • Services include individual assessments, crisis intervention, and facilitating psycho-educational groups.
  • Responsible for reflecting on how parts of your identity might give you advantages in the workplace—even if you didn’t ask for them or earn them—while others might experience disadvantages.
  • Responsible for creating an inclusive environment and behaving in a way that ensures that clients and employees feel embraced, respected, valued, engaged, and safe from abuse and harassment.
  • Adherence to all federal and state regulations regarding client services, specifically avoiding inappropriate conduct and strictly maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Maintain a high level of professional and ethical conduct towards clients, staff and the community.
  • Maintain and promote a philosophy of customer service consistent with the goals of DVIS.
  • Be sensitive to client service issues and flexible enough to respond to the needs of individual clients.
  • Responsible for screening incoming clients and completing individual intake assessments.
  • Responsible for facilitating weekly psycho-educational groups.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date and accurate files on DVIS approved electronic record system for each client.
  • Responsible for conducting from 1-4 groups per week with a maximum of 20 enrollees per group.
  • Responsible for completing 1-4 intakes per week.
  • Responsible for providing crisis services on an as needed basis for clients currently enrolled in the Batterer’s Intervention Program (BIP).
  • Responsible for writing initial court reports, updating court reports, producing timely completion court reports, and termination court reports for all BIP clients.
  • Responsible for consistently communicating with court personnel by providing weekly compliance reports for the court.
  • Responsible for collaboration with court officials, DHS, and other partners to provide accountability and coordination of care for all BIP clients.
  • Responsible for periodically attending BIP provider meetings and court hearings.
  • Responsible for working with other DVIS departments and federal, state and local agencies regarding client matters.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team setting.
