About The Position

As the Continuous Improvement and Maintenance Manager, you will lead dynamic maintenance teams in the installation, repair, preventive maintenance and continuous improvement of all critical equipment across the plant. You will be at the forefront of ensuring smooth operations, minimizing mechanical downtime, and maximizing production efficiency. By overseeing the maintenance of key processes, you will play a pivotal role in keeping product flows and production lines running at their peak, driving performance and contributing to the overall success of the facility. Your leadership ensures that every piece of equipment works seamlessly, keeping the plant in top shape for optimal production. The person in this position is responsible for using Lean Six Sigma principles to drive continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence. This role is involved in planning, scheduling, and implementing continuous improvement activities (such as Kaizen) on the production floor of a manufacturing facility. This is a fully on-site position based at our Torrance, CA location and has an expected annual compensation of $108,000-$118,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities in maintenance, continuous improvement, engineering, or production, including supervisory experience
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and managing a maintenance team.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to act as both a strategic and tactical leader.
  • Knowledge of documentation requirements for maintenance. Knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA safety standards, including LOTO, PPE, and hazard communication.
  • Able to hire, plan, listen, organize, set department objectives, interpret, provide work direction, coach, counsel, train, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Familiarity with drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, preventive maintenance, and quality assurance processes.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset and a hands-on approach to addressing challenges.
  • Experience analyzing production data, downtime trends, and KPIs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Creative and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to identify and implement site improvements, such as facility enhancements, while understanding how to plan, coordinate, and execute those changes effectively.
  • Possess the ability to troubleshoot machine and equipment failures and determine the root cause(s) and suggest counter measures to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with department leads and maintenance to drive process improvements, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency. Review downtime reports daily to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for corrective action.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, waste reduction, and cost-saving across maintenance and operations.
  • Plan, facilitate, and execute continuous improvement events using Lean Six Sigma tools; coaching and training cross-functional teams on those tools and methodologies.
  • Participate in weekly RPS (Rapid Problem Solving) meetings to lead continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and initiating the RPS (Rapid Problem Solving) process as the company’s formal method for root cause analysis. Follow the RPS procedure to investigate problems, document findings, and ensure they are accessible for future reference.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues, whether mechanical, operational, or employee-related. Ensure employee concerns, equipment problems, and process inefficiencies are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain a strong and visible presence on the production floor, especially during equipment downtime. Be available to troubleshoot and resolve downtime issues.
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance budget, parts inventory and CAPEX process; to include collection, preparation and presentation of data to management.
  • Manage capital projects by coordinating with vendors, obtaining quotes, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Ensure 24/7 availability by phone and report in person, as needed, to ensure minimal downtime of production.
  • Ensure that the maintenance department is outfitted with the proper tools and equipment and daily housekeeping standards are met. Oversee or approve installation and repair activities performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
  • Lead the Maintenance team in executing preventive maintenance schedules and minimizing equipment downtime. Coordinate with external contractors as needed to support maintenance projects, repairs, or specialized technical work.
  • Fosters employee engagement by promoting a problem-solving culture and ensuring that business and operational goals are effectively communicated to employees.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, including maintenance ticket, PM checklists, and part usage records.
  • Obtains bids for work from outside contractors. Assembles, analyzes and submits bids to Plant Manager for action.
  • Train, coach, and mentor Maintenance team members to strengthen skills, improve communication, enhance decision-making, and support daily operations, while providing ongoing performance feedback, guiding individual development plans, and partnering with HR on employee relation matters.
  • Ensure a safe working environment through continuous inspection and corrective actions, including verifying that employees are properly using required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and other department-specific safety gear.
  • Conduct investigations when workplace injuries occur, collaborating with the Safety and HR team to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
