About The Position

The Continuous Improvement Intern position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience while supporting initiatives that drive operational excellence within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This one-year paid internship will take place at Ward Leonard, starting in Summer 2026. Interns will work closely with leaders and cross-functional teams to manage projects that enhance the plant's operational performance through Lean Six Sigma methodologies. This internship is ideal for motivated, detail-oriented individuals with a passion for continuous improvement and a strong interest in pursuing a career in manufacturing operations management after graduation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/General Education Diploma and current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Operations Management, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship for employment visas.
  • Must be available to start the internship in late May 2026 and commit to the full 12-week program.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to commute to the workplace.
  • Dedication to workplace safety and adherence to company safety policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Highly motivated, with a desire to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to completing tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow company policies, including adhering to work schedules and dress code.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong interest in Lean Six Sigma principles, continuous improvement, and manufacturing operations management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Prior coursework or experience in process improvement, data analysis, or project management.

Responsibilities

  • Dedicate yourself to creating and maintaining a safe workplace free of all injuries.
  • Support FMOS initiatives by managing projects that improve the plant's operational performance.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies to analyze processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform and accomplish tasks, activities, and projects with guidance from the Intern Manager.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, leaders, and shop floor employees to achieve project deliverables.
  • Develop technical expertise and business acumen by applying academic knowledge in a professional setting.
  • Present a summary of key accomplishments and learnings to the leadership team at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Routinely communicate with department staff, providing updates on progress and notifying them of any challenges in completing tasks.
  • Work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment while demonstrating initiative and a willingness to learn.
  • Adhere to working hours as agreed and provide advance notice of any necessary schedule changes.
  • Follow the company dress code, which is casual but appropriate for a manufacturing and office environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
