About The Position

Part-time Instructor for the Continuing Education Nurse Aide Program reports to the Healthcare Programs Coordinator. Hiring is contingent upon approval of candidate by NCDHHS.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse currently registered in North Carolina with an unencumbered license and a minimum of two years registered nursing experience.
  • At least one year of experience in geriatric or long-term care required for DHHS approval.
  • Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Position also requires experience supervising nurse aides or experience in teaching adults.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to individuals with prior teaching experience in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the NC Nurse Aide I curriculum based on skill sets mandated by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
  • Develop knowledge and clinical skills aimed at assisting students to qualify for listing on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry.
  • Adhere to clinical site policies, procedures, expectations, and practices.
  • Enforces academic policy and procedures at all times.
  • Assist students in developing the knowledge and clinical skills needed to pass the state competency exam for listing as a North Carolina Nurse Aide I.
  • Evaluate and document student's progress through testing, observation, and skill assessment.
  • Create an effective learning environment and use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
  • Submit required reports and fulfill all contract provisions.
  • Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Maintain student, instructor, and staff confidentiality. Consistently monitor work area to ensure instructor and student data is being protected according to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations.
  • Responsible for the grading of assignments and maintaining files including attendance rosters/Final grading forms per the guidelines of governing agencies.
  • Provides regular, accurate, and timely feedback to students including grading of assignments; is available to students requiring additional assistance.
  • Adapt and respond to changing work situations and environments in a positive manner.
  • Participate in professional development activities designed to enhance job skills and knowledge, as agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
  • Interact with students, the public, the community, and co-workers in a cooperative, courteous and professional manner.
  • Comply with the College's policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Classroom instruction and laboratory training in accordance with approved course outline.
  • Coordinating and supervising students in clinical settings in accordance with the approved course outline.
  • Utilizing principles of current nursing practice and diverse teaching strategies in classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
  • Maintaining timely and complete documentation associated with student and College records.
  • Other duties as assigned.
