About The Position

Under the direction of the Dean of the Extension School, the Continuing Education (CE) Instructor is responsible for conducting non-degree professional certificate programs, courses, and seminars for non-credit individuals and organizations through the Roger Williams University's Extension School. We seek a knowledgeable and dedicated instructor to teach in our DLT-approved Electrical Apprenticeship Program. The instructor will deliver related training instruction (RTI) to apprentices working toward their Journeyperson 'B' Electrician license. This part-time role is ideal for a licensed electrician who is passionate about mentoring and preparing the next generation of professionals in the electrical trade.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson 'B' or Master Electrician license in Rhode Island and/or Massachusetts (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in the electrical trade (preferred).
  • Prior teaching, training, or supervisory experience (strongly preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage classroom dynamics and support diverse learners.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to student success and workforce development.
  • 40-hour NCCER Craft Instructor training (will be provided upon hire, if not yet completed).
  • Comfort using basic computer applications for attendance, grades, and communication (or willingness to learn).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality instruction aligned with the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (DLT) apprenticeship standards.
  • Teach approximately 150 hours of related instruction over the academic year, plus additional hours of preparation.
  • Attend 3-5 administrative/program review meetings a year.
  • Provide students with instruction in both theory and application of electrical concepts, safety practices, and trade skills.
  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively to ensure a professional, respectful, and safe learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records in accordance with program policies.
  • Collaborate with program administrators to ensure curriculum compliance and student success.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom environment that supports diverse learners.
