About The Position

The Continuing Education Assistant at Brooklyn Botanic Garden supports a variety of adult education programs, including classes and workshops on horticulture, gardening, and floral design. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in environmental science, horticulture, floral design, or the arts preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, including email communication.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual equipment or willingness to learn basic functions.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to solve problems efficiently and independently.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability and willingness to learn to work with other programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in environmental science, horticulture, floral design, or the arts preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Correspond with instructors in advance to determine their needs.
  • Prepare course materials for in-person classes, including printed handouts; deliver materials to the classroom.
  • Schedule and start Zoom meetings for virtual classes; assist with tech issues and Zoom tools as needed.
  • Serve as the point person for student questions and share class details in advance with students.
  • Answer all questions in the Continuing Education general inbox.
  • Print, distribute, and collect evaluations; enter input evaluations into the database when relevant.
  • Assist with IT issues related to classroom computers and projectors.
  • Submit work orders weekly to facilitate classroom setup.
  • Submit work orders for room setup for special events as needed.
  • Inventory classroom supplies and maintain organization and cleanliness of the classroom.
  • Maintain departmental and institutional calendars.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.
